Boston had its 12-game win streak snapped by the Los Angeles Lakers in a 110-109 overtime decision on Thursday, but a 38-24 differential in the fourth quarter Friday helped ease the pain over the setback.
Ray Allen had 22 points, while Kevin Garnett ended with 15 points and 11 rebounds for the Celtics, who shot 51.3 percent from the floor. Rajon Rondo chipped in 12 points, 10 boards and seven assists for the victors.
Al Harrington paced the Knicks with 27 points, while David Lee posted a 18- point, 18-rebound effort in New York's third straight loss -- albeit to the upper echelon of the league in the Lakers, Cavaliers and Celtics.
Chris Duhon and Nate Robinson added 15 and 13 points, respectively, in defeat.
Neither team led by more than six points for the first three quarters. That fact changed drastically in the final stanza as the Celtics woke up from their slumber to tally 13 of 16 points after leading 88-86 with under seven minutes to play.
Allen started the spurt with a layup and House scored five quick points for a 95-86 lead at the four-minute mark. Duhon stemmed the tide with a three-point play, but Leon Powe dropped in a pair of buckets around a Pierce three-pointer to extend the difference even further.
House's three-ball with two minutes left made it a 104-91 game and the defending champions cruised to the finish line from there.
Boston held a 27-26 lead after the first quarter and, though appearing sluggish in the second, trailed by only a point, 47-46, at the break.
The third quarter was much of the same with neither team seizing control. Robinson's four-point play near the five-minute mark put the Knicks ahead, 64-62, and the home team managed to stay up, 76-72, leading to the fourth.

Boston has won seven straight on the road...The Celtics had defeated the Knicks eight straight times before New York won a 100-88 decision at Madison Square Garden on January 4....Lee has recorded 13 straight double-doubles... Powe logged 13 points and seven rebounds for Boston, which owned a 51-43 edge on the glass.
