No. 14 Arizona State holds off surging Wildcats

NCAA Basketball Betting Lines

02/23/2009 - Tempe, AZ (Sportsbook Betting Lines) - James Harden had 18 points and nine rebounds to help No. 14 Arizona State edge Pac-10 rival Arizona, 70-68, at Wells-Fargo Arena.

Rihards Kuksiks donated 17 points for the Sun Devils (21-5, 10-4 Pac-10), who have won five straight games. Jeff Pendergraph chipped in 16 points and 12 boards in the win.

Nic Wise scored 17 points and doled out seven assists for the Wildcats (18-9, 8-6), who saw their seven-game win streak come to an end. Kyle Fogg and Jordan Hill ended with 14 points apiece in defeat.

Down by 11 late in the game, Jamelle Horne hit a jumper to spark a 13-0 Arizona run that gave the Wildcats a 62-60 lead with 4:14 left.

The teams traded baskets and a three-pointer from Kuksiks gave the home team a 68-66 lead with 1:16 left to play.

Hill then had a putback layup off a missed shot by Wise to tie the game with 55 ticks left.

Pendergraph was then fouled by Hill with 25.6 seconds remaining and hit both shots to make it 70-68.

Hill was unable to connect on a layup and Zane Johnson grabbed the rebound but was also unable to get it to fall before Derek Glasser was fouled with 5.6 seconds showing for a one-and-one.

He missed the first shot, and Arizona got the ball and tried to work it up the court but Wise lost control of the ball at midcourt and the clock ran out.

Johnson's layup brought the Wildcats within 29-26 late in the first half, but the Sun Devils outscored their counterpart 15-8 throughout the rest of the frame to take a 44-34 lead at the break.

Pendergraph sparked the surge with a free throw before Kuksiks hit three three-pointers. Harden then offered a dunk and Glasser closed things out with a three-pointer.

Fogg knocked down a trey to begin the second half, then ASU rattled off 10 straight points to go up 54-37 with just under 14 minutes left in the game.

Game Notes

The Sun Devils capped a three-game homestand in perfect fashion Sunday. ASU owns an 11-2 record on its home floor. After knocking off UCLA to kick off the homestand, ASU defeated USC, 65-53, a week ago...Arizona is 2-7 on the road...Arizona leads the all-time series, 138-77.

Stanley Cup betting

New York, NY – October 3, 2007 – The dress rehearsal is over! The NHL preseason has ended and now that fans have had a glimpse of what is to come it is time to hit the book! Stanley Cup odds are live at MySportsbook.com, the world’s largest online sportsbook and casino.

The Ottawa Senators and Detroit Red Wings remain on top of the odds charts after an impressive start in the preseason. Betting lines opened for both teams at 6-1 in June. Since then the Sens have fallen to 7-1 and the Red Wings are now caught in a pack including the defending champion Carolina Hurricanes, the San Jose Sharks and the Anaheim Ducks, all at 10-1.

MySportsbook.com has also posted props on each team’s point total for the regular season. The Senators lead the charge at 108.5 followed by the Ducks at 106.5. Detroit will attempt a repeat for the prize as the Red Wings are deadlocked with the Predators at 104.5 a piece. The temporary loss of highly touted rookie Evgeni Malkin puts a lot of pressure on the stick of assistant captain Sidney Crosby - his lowly Pittsburgh Penguins are listed at 71.5.

Even if bettors are not brave enough to put their money on the underdog, an early bet on the favorites at sportsbook.com tends to produce bigger payouts than a mid-season wager. Placing a $1,000 bet last summer on the Detroit Red Wings or Ottawa Senators would have paid out to $8,000 and $10,000 respectively, opposed to a $2,500 or $3,000 payout at the beginning of the playoffs.
