The Blackhawks have lost three straight for the third time this season and for the first time since November 26-29. Chicago's last four-game skid came from March 7-12 of last season.
Chicago is the fourth seed in the Western Conference with 77 points on the season and, despite the recent slide, still holds a seven-point edge over fifth-seeded Vancouver.
After absorbing back-to-back regulations losses, the Blackhawks were at least able to gain a point in their most recent setback as they dropped Friday's overtime decision against visiting Pittsburgh.
Evgeni Malkin scored on the power play 1:36 into OT, overshadowing the first career hat trick for Chicago's Jonathan Toews, as the Penguins defeated the Blackhawks, 5-4, at the United Center.
Dave Bolland also found the net and Cam Barker collected a career-high three assists for Chicago, which went 7-4-1 in February. Martin Havlat added an assist to extend his point streak to seven games.
Cristobal Huet was yanked in favor of Antti Niemi after surrendering four goals on 22 shots through the first 40 minutes. Niemi stopped five of the six shots he faced to take the loss in his NHL debut.
Today's tilt is the middle segment of a three-game homestand for the Blackhawks, who will wrap up the residency Tuesday against Anaheim. Chicago is 15-5-6 as the host this season, but has lost two straight and five of six in the Windy City.
The Kings come into this afternoon's game, having lost two straight, four of five and seven of their last nine contests. With 61 points, Los Angeles is 13th in the West and six points out of a playoff berth.
LA won the first stop on a five-game road trip with a victory over the Minnesota Wild, but have since dropped regulation games in Philadelphia and Detroit. The most recent setback came Friday against the Red Wings, as Chris Osgood stopped 30 shots, and Tomas Kopecky netted the game-winner early in the third period to lead Detroit to the 2-1 victory at Joe Louis Arena.
Alexander Frolov had a power-play goal for the Kings, while Jonathan Quick made 39 saves in the loss.
Despite winning their first four games of the month, Los Angeles finished February with a 6-5-2 record.
The Kings are 13-13-1 as the visiting team this season and will close out the swing Tuesday in Columbus.
Los Angeles is 2-0 against the Blackhawks this year, winning each game by a 5-2 score. However, tonight's test marks the first meeting of the year in Chicago. The Kings have taken four of five and five of the last seven overall in this series and have also won two of three and five of their last eight in the Windy City.
